Sherlock Holmes: A Baker's Street Dozen
Published in Audio Cassette by Soundelux Audio Pub (March, 1996)
Authors: Arthur Conan, Sir Doyle, John Gielgud, Ralph Richardson, and Orson Welles
Average review score:

Great Actors -- Great Stories -- Great Listening
John Gielgud as Holmes! Orson Welles as Moriarty! How could a Holmes lover resist buying this collection? I spent six pleasant hours reliving the Holmes saga. I went with Holmes and Watson from the foggy streets of London to the English countryside to the Reichenbach Falls where Holmes and Moriarty fought their last battle. Radio plays stimulate the mind to a a degree that television never can, and these stories served up mental stimulation of the first order. As good as "A Baker's Street Dozen" is, though, it doesn't quite measure up to the quality of the BBC series starring Clive Merrison as Holmes. Gielgud is undoubtedly the better actor, but Merrison is the better Holmes.

Despite the fact that Gielgud doesn't capture Holmes' energy as well as Merrison, "A Baker's Street Dozen" is superb listening. It would make an excellent addition to any mystery lover's audio library.

One minor quibble: I can't understand why they renamed three of the stories. "The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton" became "The Blackmailer;" "The Adventure of the Golden Pince Nez" became "The Yoxley Case;" and "The Adventure of the Dying Detective" became "Rare Disease." In each case, Conan Doyle's choice of titles was superior.

The power of the imagination
I am very pleased with "A Baker's Street Dozen." It is so wonderful to listen to these stories and let the power of your imagination create the scenes described by the many wonderful tales. The only flaw I would like to see the publishers correct is that the stories do not seem to follow a chronological order. The fifth tale, "The Final Problem," is an account of Sherlock Holmes' final adventure. However, you still have 7 more tales to go through! Place these stories in chronological order and you will have a flawless product.

Special Edition Using AutoCAD 2000 (Using (Special Edition))
Published in Hardcover by Que (17 March, 2000)
Authors: Ron House, Paul W. Richardson, John Brooks, and Dylan Vance
Average review score:

nice
I have bought the special edition using autocad2000 to help me with a course I am taking at college. I had my teacher take a gander and he said that it was a good book but thought that it could elaborate a little more. The idea of spending some time explaining about drafting was a very nice touch though. philiperochon@aol.com

A must-have for long-time AutoCAD users!
A must-have for long-time AutoCAD users who want to quickly implement AutoCAD 2000- and 2000i-based products. The beauty of this book is its focus on effectively using AutoCAD to solve business problems. A great supplement to the out-of-box documentation from Autodesk.

To See a World in a Grain of Sand
Published in Hardcover by C R Gibson Co (September, 1983)
Authors: Caesar Johnson, Johnson Caesar Gibson, and Edward Richardson

Great Thoughts
I was given this deceiving book by my grandparents. It is small in appearance but infinite in its applications. Good inspirations on various topics. I've read it over and over again. I haven't read any other "quote" books in depth so I'm not sure of the quality compared to the norm.

Inspiration to live life on your own terms
I have more "quotation" books than I should admit to. This slim volume has more "global" and unique perspectives than any mainstream book. It gives me inspiration to continue to live life on my own terms. I really like this little book.

Toy Story 2: A Junior Novel
Published in Paperback by Random House Disney (November, 1999)
Authors: Leslie Goldman and Julia Richardson
Average review score:

Times With Toys
Toy Story II is a book about a boy named Andy and the adventures that he has with his toys. Two of his favorite toys are Woody and Buzz. One of the things that happened in the book is Woody got kidnapped and almost sold to the konishi toy museum in Japan. Luckily Buzz and some of the other toys risked their lives to save him. Many other things happened throughout the story. Toy Story II, writen by Leslie Goldman, was a fun book to read. It kept my interest throughout the book. With each chapter, I wanted to read more. I found a pattern in the chapters. one chapter told about what Woody was doing. The next told about what the other toys were doing to save him.

Toy Story 2
It is exciting and fun to read. The cover is beautiful too. For me, it is hard to read. There are too many words to read and a lot of pages. I like the picture because it is like a real toy.

Yoga for Bears: A Little Primer on the Unbearable Rightness of Bending
Published in Hardcover by HarperCollins (February, 1995)
Authors: Rosamond Richardson, Rosamund Richardson, and James M. Ward
Average review score:

Good for Beginners
In this petite 85-paged beginner's guide to yoga, "Yoga for Bears" demonstrates 31 various yoga positions, each posture interpreted via two drawn bears. (The master is on the left; the beginner is on the right.) Although the bear drawings are cute and unique, I found some of the positions slightly more confusing and inaccurate by using the illustrations rather than human subjects. It was hard to tell what goes where (especially on the Triangle and Sitting Twist exercises), but at least there's a descriptive paragraph on every other page that tries to clarify the yoga position.

There's also additional information in this tiny book (which, by the way, is easy to take with you almost anywhere), such as a recommended reading list, a brief intro to yoga (including the Sanskrit names of each exercise), hints and advice, and some useful addresses and telephone numbers for finding a yoga class (though they may be out of date by now).

"Yoga for Bears" was given to me by my sister a couple years ago when she had gotten over her yoga craze. Although I've only used it once or twice (I'm not really into yoga), I'd still recommend this book to beginners, particularly ones who love bears; after all, these furry creatures detail the entire book. However, I'd still follow the bit of advice on page 14 if you're serious about approaching yoga properly: "find a good teacher and go to a regular class." You may run the risk of injuring yourself by practicing alone.

Simple, beautiful
How sad it is that this little book has gone out of print! Yoga for Bears is a sweetly illustrated users' guide for yoga practioners. Cartoon bears, accompanied by brief explanations, demonstrate a variety of asanas.

The Adventures of Eros and Psyche
Published in School & Library Binding by Troll Communications (May, 1983)
Authors: I. M. Richardson and Robert Baxter
Average review score:

A must for all classrooms
I.M. Richardson has done a great job retelling the Greek myths. Students love to hear about myths and legends, gods and goddesses and The Adventures of Eros and Psyche along with the rest of Richardson's Greek mythology series are vivid, well written pieces. They are ideal for young researchers, drama classes, and any reading group. I would rate the reading level from grade 2 through 4, but I have sixth graders that love to reread these classics. Yes, we need to be multicultural and hear legends from all over our globe, but let's not forget the beautiful tales from Greece.

An American Pursuit Pilot in France: Roland W. Richardson's Diaries and Letters, 1917-1919
Published in Hardcover by White Mane Publishing Co. (September, 1994)
Authors: Roland W. Richardson, Ritchie Thomas, and Carl M. Becker

a pilot's experiences in the U.S. Army's Signal Corps in WWI
Dairy and letters home to his mother, by U.S. pilot, describing his experiences in training and flying for the Army's air service in WWI. By the time he was sent to the front to actually fight, the war was almost over, so there is little regarding combat but good descriptions of airplanes, training, air bases and morale of the flyers.

The Best-Loved Short Stories of Jesse Stuart
Published in Hardcover by Jesse Stuart Foundation (May, 2000)
Authors: Jesse Stuart and H. Edward Richardson
Average review score:

Good Book, Minor Complaint
I bought this book sight-unseen as a gift for my 77-year old mother since she lives not so far from Mr. Stuart's neck of the woods and I thought she would enjoy it (I'd read several on Mr. Stuart's short stories when I was going to school). One minor comment: while the text certainly isn't 'phone book' tiny, I wish they'd used a larger text and made two volumes out of it if necessary. Still, I don't want to be too critical of a good effort, so I'll give it 4. Mr. Stuart was quite an inspiration to the teachers in my hometown of Clarksville, Tennessee.

Birth Order and You: How Your Sex and Position in the Family Affects Your Personality and Relationships
Published in Paperback by Self Counsel Press (June, 1990)
Authors: Ronald W. Richardson, Lois A. Richardson, and Ron W. Richardson
Average review score:

Birth Order And You
I really enjoyed this book and was very shocked to see how well it describes personalities according to their birth order. I felt as if someone had written about my life, under the appropriate headings describing my birth order. It is not all flattering, but simply accurate with most things. It is also a helpful tool in understanding and having successful relationships. Try it for yourself.
